NOTE: the 1/2-20 is a special order thread size, so it will have to be made to order and may take several weeks to receive your order. I also used a star lock washer to 'bite' into the boot so it wouldn't slip out from between the two flat washers. As another benefit, the chrome washer protects the shifter boot from excess wear (like you see so many of the higher mileage cloth interior TDI's with worn out boots.) On the underside of the boot, I used a flat washer with a slightly smaller outer diameter than the chrome one that is visible, so that the boot wouldn't stick out and be exposed to excessive wear. I also really like the feel with the spacer below the knob, it allows you to wrap your fingers around the knob. In order to reuse the factory shifter boot, I needed use the spacer below the knob, otherwise the boot was too short and would pull out. Its also identical in size/shape/weight to the shift knob that. We love the subtle, yet noticeable improvement this makes in the 'feel' of gear changes. I then used a 1/2-20 jam nut, a couple washers and a 3/4" chrome spacer before I put the flameball knob on. I opted for a little cleaner, but much more involved installed, by drilling a hole down the shifter and fishing the LED and wiring down this hole, thus lighting the knob via the hole that it threads onto the shifter by.
